Princess Anne looked almost unrecognisable during a royal engagement in Portsmouth as she visited the HMS Victory Conservation Project at HM Naval Base with her husband Sir Timothy Laurence. The Princess Royal, 73, who recently visited Norway on a royal visit, looked stylish as she swapped her skirt suits and dresses for a pair of flared trousers which she paired with a fitted suit jacket and statement patterned blouse.

To finish off the look, Princess Anne opted for all-black accessories in keeping with the monochromatic look as she carried a chic black shoulder bag and wore some patent loafers as well as a white hard hat.

As part of the visit, which took place on Thursday, 9 May, the royal also wore a brooch in the shape of a crown - a similar design to the Royal Navy and Merchant Services Gold and Pearl Nautical Crown Sweetheart brooch.

Princess Anne’s visit comes as her children Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips joined their cousin Prince William at a garden party at Buckingham Palace last month.

For the occasion, the duo were joined by Zara’s husband Mike Tindall as well as their cousin Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as they mingled with guests and met members of the public.

In an exclusive interview with OK!, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond explained that the special occasion gave a rare glimpse into what the monarchy could look like in the future under King William, when he takes to the throne.

“I thought it was joyful to see this new generation of royals step up to help William at one of the traditional engagements of the year,” she said. “What a shame it was raining, but I think their guests would have been genuinely thrilled to meet this younger, less formal and, let’s face it, more fun generation of royals.

“I think it gave us a glimpse of the future: when William becomes King. He may not have his brother at his side, but he will have a band of loyal and close relatives to help him represent the monarchy.

"I’m sure that, whenever they can, they will step up to help William when the burden of Kingship finally falls on his shoulders.”

However, not in attendance at the Buckingham Palace garden party were Zara and Peter’s two youngest cousins, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, who is currently studying at the University of St. Andrews, and her 16 year old brother James, Earl of Wessex.
