A little over a fortnight ago (17 February), news broke that Prince Philip had been admitted to hospital (London's King Edward VII) as a "precautionary measure" after feeling unwell. It was later shared with the general public that he had been moved to another hospital, St Bartholomew's, which is known to be a centre of excellence for all things heart-related.

While there, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the decision had been made to move the 99-year-old so that doctors could continue to treat him for an infection, as well as test and observe a pre-existing heart condition. The Palace (on 1 March) added that the Duke of Edinburgh "remains comfortable and is responding to treatment" but will stay in hospital until "at least the end of the week."

Now, the official royal camp have given a further update on Prince Philip's condition and say that he has undergone a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition, explaining that he will continue resting and recovering at St Bart's following the surgery. The Palace said the procedure took place on Wednesday.

Very early on, it was confirmed that Philip's illness was not coronavirus-related and in January, both he and the Queen underwent COVID-19 vaccinations, with their age giving both priority. The vaccines were administered by a household doctor at Windsor Castle.

Back in 2011, the Duke was was flown to hospital via helicopter from Sandringham in the run up to Christmas, after he reported suffering with chest pains, which were later identified as being caused a blocked coronary artery. He was treated at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire and had a stent fitted.

Prince Philip is set to turn 100 years old this June and towards the end of last year, celebrated his 73rd wedding anniversary with The Queen, after having married on 20 November 1947. To mark the occasion, the royal household released a sweet photo of the couple opening a very artistic handmade card from their great-grandchildren, seven-year-old Prince George, five-year-old Princess Charlotte, and two-year-old Prince Louis.

We're wishing Prince Philip a speedy recovery in hospital and hope that he can return home to the Queen at Windsor Castle as soon as possible.
