Prince Louis nearly hit Queen Camilla in hilarious Trooping the Colour moment

The first appearance of a young royal on the Buckingham Palace balcony is always a big deal, especially when they do something especially cute.

Prince Louis might just take the cake for the most unforgettable debut.

After the Trooping the Colour ceremony in 2019, the family gathered to wave at the crowds and watch a flypast of various jets and planes, including an impressive display by the Red Arrows who left trails of red, white and blue across the skies of London.

Trooping the Colour returns to capital's streets on Saturday, 15 June, celebrating King Charles' official birthday – it begins at Buckingham Palace at 10am as the regiments of the Foot Guards and members of the Royal Family make their way to Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall.

After a spectacular display, which will see the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards troop their Colour (their flag) before the King, the parade will make it's way back to Buckingham Palace. The Royal Family will then appear on the Palace balcony just before 1pm to watch the RAF flypast.

It was confirmed just the day before the event that Kate Middleton would attend, being joined by her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, in a carriage for the traditional procession and later on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The Princess of Wales released a personal message, in which she said she is making “good progress” in her cancer treatment.

Prince Louis was brought out in his mum, the Princess of Wales' arms, dressed in a blue and white outfit – very similar to the one Prince William wore at the same event in 1984.

He immediately pointed at the crowds and waved with great enthusiasm, reports MyLondon.

In fact, the little royal's waving was so animated that he accidentally hit Queen Camilla, on her hat. Camilla didn't seem to mind though, she turned to her grandson and gave him an adoring smile, before mimicking his excited 'oohh's and aahhs'.

Louis, who had only just celebrated his first birthday at the time, was then handed over to his dad and they appeared to be deep in conversation about what they could see in the sky.

As the National Anthem echoed through the Buckingham Palace courtyard, a wave of applause broke out and little Prince Louis joined in, clapping along with the crowd.

Even as the Royal Family started to leave the balcony, Louis couldn't keep his arm still and turned his attention to his grandad, then-Prince Charles. The two shared a sweet moment, waving at each other as they headed back into the palace.

At this ceremony, the royal children were on their best behaviour, but that hasn't always been the case.

Savannah Phillips, the eldest daughter of Prince William's cousin, Peter Phillips, was feeling particularly cheeky at the same event a year earlier when she put her hand over Prince George's mouth to stop him from singing the National Anthem.

The young royal even shot a mischievous but equally hilarious glare straight down the camera lens as she covered her cousin's mouth.

Even Prince William couldn't resist the excitement of the day back in 1987 when he pretended to fire slingshots at the crowds before being reprimanded by his aunt, Princess Anne.
