Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reveal they are expecting a girl

Watch: Harry and Meghan to have a baby girl

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have revealed they are expecting a girl as they prepare to welcome their second child.

The couple announced the sex of their baby in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired in the US on CBS late on Sunday evening.

The first part of the interview was conducted with just Meghan, 39, and Winfrey, but Harry joined the two women for the second half.

He opened by revealing "it's a girl" before adding that "two is it".

The prince has previously said he will only have two children, for the sake of the environment.

Speaking of how he was feeling he added: "Just grateful. To have any child, any one or any two, would have been amazing.

“But to have a boy and then a girl, I mean what more can you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, we got the four of us and our two dogs.”

Meghan confirmed the baby is due in "the summertime".

The couple initially shared the news of Meghan's pregnancy on Valentine's Day with an image taken remotely by their friend Misan Harriman.

The new arrival will be the little sister of their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

In the interview the couple also revealed that they did not stipulate not wanting a title for their son, saying it’s not their right to take it away.

She said "the idea of the first member of colour in this family not being titled" brought pain to her.

Meghan claims convention was being changed for their son, saying he would not "receive protection".

Archie, who turns two in May, is still seventh in line to the throne. Meghan and Harry were receiving royal security when they were working royals.

She also said there had been "concerns and conversations" about the colour of Archie's skin before he was born.

Asked whether there were concerns that her child would be “too brown” and that would be a problem, Meghan said: “If that is the assumption you are making, that is a pretty safe one.”

Oprah With Meghan And Harry will air in the UK on ITV at 9pm on 8 March.
