Prince Harry gushes about Meghan's pregnancy for the first time

Following a day filled of activities on day one of the royal tour, Harry publicly gushed about his wife’s pregnancy for the first time in Sydney yesterday.

“It is great to be back in Australia, and especially even more so this is my wife’s first visit here, so I am very excited to show her this incredible country of yours,” Harry said in a speech at Admiralty House this afternoon.

“We also genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby, be it a boy or a girl,” he added later on in his speech.

A pregnant Meghan – who had changed into a khaki ensemble – beamed as she watched her husband command the room as he gave his thanks to everyone for the “incredibly warm welcome” Down Under.

Earlier in the day, Meghan was seen wearing a stunning in a figure-hugging dress by Australian designer Karen Gee which retails for $1,800, and is described on their website as “a simple, structured fit designed to contour the body for a sleek silhouette”.

Earlier in the day on their visit to the Sydney Opera House, Meghan acknowledged her pregnancy whilst chatting to 98-year-old war widow Daphne Dunne.

“Hopefully next time we’re with you we’ll have our little one with us,” Meghan reportedly said.

After announcing the happy news they’re expecting their first child together, the royal couple were welcomed by plenty of fans at the Sydney landmark.

Earlier in the day, Harry and Meghan were photographed meeting an iconic resident of Australia at Taronga Zoo, during the second tour stop on Tuesday.

The Duke and Duchess chatted to zoo keepers as they got up close and personal to a koalas. While Meghan appeared a bit hesitant at first, Harry was happy to get in and pat the animals.

“This was our gift to them on their wedding day along with a donation towards preserving koala habitats,” NSW Premier Gladys shared on Instagram.

The royals visited the zoo for the official Opening of the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning.

Taronga Zoo seems to be leading the way and I think zoos across the world, those that are still going, those that still have the funding, have got a lot to learn from a place like this and to see the dedicated staff that all of you guys are is fantastic,” Harry said after unveiling the plaque.

Meghan also stepped in to help, cutting the ribbon to open the new institute.

Just hours after touching down in Sydney yesterday, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the happy news there was a royal baby on the way.

What will Meghan and Harry call their baby?

Following the birth of Wills and Kate’s third child, Prince Louis, earlier this year, royal baby fever can well and truly continue with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex expecting.

The main question will be: what will the couple name the royal baby?

“At this stage Diana, Arthur and Alice, which was favourite at different stages for Kate and William’s babies, are the 12/1 front runners,” Betfair spokeperson Katie Baylis told The Express.

“However, with months until the baby is born, those odds will shorten, change and other names will come to the forefront, so watch this space.”

In terms of their child’s last name, the newlyweds may in fact call their children by the surname Sussex.

This follows the same suit Prince William and Kate Middleton have done for their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and newborn Prince Louis.

Last year, it was announced that Prince George would be known officially as George Cambridge when he started school at Thomas’ Battersea in London – a name which stems from his father and mother being the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Relationship timeline of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Harry and Meghan went public with their blossoming relationship in November 2016 after they met and first started dating in May that year.

While their paths hadn’t crossed before then, Meghan already had a lot in common with the prince thanks to her extensive charity work. She’s been the face of World Vision Canada in Africa, and recently visited India in aid of young women in need – features which would no doubt have impressed her late mother-in-law Diana, who was a fierce humanitarian.

After 18 months of dating, the couple announced their engagement in November 2017.

“The ring is – is obviously yellow gold because that’s what – her favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” Harry said in his first interview with Meghan to the BBC.

Five months later on May 19 2018, Harry and Meghan wed in a lavish ceremony in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
