Prince George has a ball playing with his father in Sandringham football match
Prince George joined the Prince of Wales for Sandringham’s festive football match for the first time this year.
The 11-year-old, who is an avid football fan, played alongside his father in the annual match between the King’s Sandringham estate workers and neighbouring villagers.
The duo were reportedly cheered on from the sidelines by the rest of the Wales family.
They were playing in the team wearing blue, according to spectators.
Prince William almost scored while his eldest son was hailed for his enthusiasm running around the pitch, it was said.
The Prince and his eldest son are regularly seen watching William’s favourite team, Aston Villa.
‘Healthy bonding time’
They have also been seen cheering on the England football team together and were pictured jumping for joy earlier this year when the Three Lions scored an equaliser against Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
An onlooker told The Sun: “It just looked like healthy father and son bonding time.
“There were other children playing and it was all good fun and light-hearted.”
“It is nice that they have returned to take part in the traditional game as they haven’t done so for years.
“But it was interesting to see that Harry has now been substituted for Prince George.”
In previous years, William and Harry would play in the annual match together, sometimes even competing on the same team.
In 2015, the royal brothers, who normally play on opposing teams in the annual festive match, broke with tradition by playing for the same side.
That year around 200 spectators watched as the princes’ team, wearing yellow and black shirts sponsored by the Black Horse Inn at Castle Rising, won the match 4-1.
The last time the brothers took to the field is believed to be in 2016.
