Have you heard of the positive potato? It's an adorable new crochet home accessory that's all over the internet at the moment – and we're here to explain why you need a positive potato in your life.

The positive potato is a small crochet potato, only 7 or 8cm tall. This adorable crochet keepsake was created by Bex Coster, also known as Hooked by Bex. She learned how to crochet when her great-nephew was born, and she wanted to stitch him a pair of baby booties.

But it was when her husband was sadly in hospital that the positive potato was born. Bex wanted to make him something cute to have with him by his bedside, and so stitched a little brown crochet potato with the sign reading 'I may be a tiny potato, but I believe in you. Go do your thing!'.

After that Bex started making more and more positive potatoes and selling them on her Hooked By Bex shop on Etsy. When Prima chatted to Bex about creating the positive potato, she said: "I wanted a bit of positivity in the world – the potatoes are supposed to be fun and cheeky."

Having started the projects as a career break, Bex since decided to run her crochet business full-time. Now she crochets about 40 potatoes a week! She's also expanded into other cute keepsakes, including doughnuts, guacamoles and pineapples.

Bex says the feedback from her customers has been really positive. Bex said: "I've been told it's a lovely time to have on a desk. My customers have given it as a gift to someone special in hard times, or to have for themselves."
