As 2025 approaches, new research has predicted the most popular baby names for next year - and if you're expecting a wee one soon, this could provide some inspiration if you're undecided. A recent study from JoJo Maman Bébé revealed that over a quarter (26%) of UK parents are concerned about regretting their child's name, with 24% finding it difficult to agree on a name.
Meanwhile almost two in five (37%) chose a name that others would find easy to pronounce and spell, while 36% changed their child’s name after first meeting them. So to give parents some naming inspiration, JoJo Maman Bébé has teamed up with baby name consultant Colleen Slagen to explore 2024’s most popular names, which names are at risk of becoming extinct and her predictions for 2025.

In addition to this year's favoured names, it's forecasted that shorter names will be trendy in 2025 due to their simple allure: "Keep an eye out for Margot in 2025 as folks are seeking feminine, classic-sounding alternatives to the top 10 girls' names, and monikers like Margot, Eloise, and Vivian fit the bill. A few of the trends I'm observing at present that I anticipate seeing more of in 2025 are short and effortless names for both lads and lasses. For instance, 1-2 syllables and 3-4 letter names like Cal, Mack, Vann and Case for boys and Navy, Indy, Drew, and Reya for girls."
The expert further predicts that "names ending in 'o' are big for boys and names ending in 'a' are big for girls." Names such as Milo and Hugo are names that "sound like sweet, gentle kids as opposed to Banks or Knox which have a cool-guy feel."
Discussing the "biggest trend" the expert is anticipating next year, they refer to it as "My Best Friend's Dad" names: Scottie, Tommie, Markie, Mickey, and Billie. People are also gravitating more toward gender-neutral names for boys" like Darcy and Kit."
Old-fashioned names are also gaining popularity. For girls, Louise, Dorothy, Mabel and Maisie are on the rise and for boys it's Arthur, Archie, and Howard. Judith and Reggie have also recently been used. Speaking about celebs naming their offspring, the expert says they find it intriguing that "Hailey and Justin chose Jack as it's a very popular name."
