I invested in quality linen bedding, and can't believe the difference it has made to my sleep
If you invest in one thing this year, let it be luxurious bedding.
In a series of efforts to make upgrades to my long-term rental, without making any permanent changes that would jeopardise my deposit, I've been investing in small, worthwhile additions that, with the right care, I know will last me for years, starting with quality bedding.

Admittedly, I've never been one for splurging on bed sheets. But after a stint of sleepless nights, and a wish to zhush up my bedroom, I decided the time was right to switch things up and try a brand I had been seeing everywhere: Piglet in Bed.
Having launched in 2017, Piglet in Bed specialises in high-quality, low-maintenance bedding, sleepwear and homeware, with a focus on linen. Why linen? Linen's natural long fibres help to regulate your body temperature as you sleep thanks to its breathable and moisture-absorbent characteristics. Not just that, but it looks super chic, too.
Officially my favourite set of bedding (and I have quite a collection, namely from Habitat), I would recommend Piglet in Bed to anyone searching for a set of sheets that will last them years, have a positive impact on their sleep, and look seriously stylish.

💸 Reasons to buy
First things first, how did it arrive? Promptly delivered and beautifully packaged, it arrived in a recyclable cardboard box, studded with a charming "oink" sticker. Inside, the bedding was carefully folded and wrapped with a fabric ribbon, complete with a personalised note - a lovely touch.
It washed well in the first wash, and since then has come out perfect every time. Not a bobble or patch of piling in site!
The definition of low-maintenance, these sheets don't require any ironing. Music to anyone's ears, they air-dry perfectly crease-free, excluding a couple of crinkles here and there, but they simply add to the effortless, lived-in vibe (even then, they fall out after a couple of hours).
Size-wise, I always pick my duvet covers up in a king size to go over my double bed, because I prefer the way the extra duvet drapes over the sides for a more luxurious look. It also means I have enough coverage to comfortably wrap myself up (even when my partner pulls the covers). I did the same with this set from Piglet in Bed, and it did not disappoint. They hang perfectly over my bed, and have made a world of difference to my sleep.
The choice in gorgeous prints and colours is definitely worth noting as well. You can pick your bedding up in everything from stripes to gingham or block colours, whatever suits your space and style best. I fell head over heels in love with one of the brand's best-selling designs, this Pine Green Pembroke Stripe, and absolutely love the way it looks paired with my burnt orange bed sheets and pillowcases, and neutral cushions.
As for other thoughtful design details, each set comes finished with coconut shell button fastenings and handy inside corner ties that stop your duvet from slipping - a common bugbear with duvet covers.
It feels great to sleep in, too. Made from a comforting blend of cotton and linen, they're soft to touch, don't irritate my sensitive skin, and are incredibly breathable. As a hot sleeper, I've seen a noticeable difference in the quality of my sleep, with less of an urge to need to stick my legs out for air in the middle of the night. The combination of cotton and linen also means the fabric isn't scratchy, which is often the case with linen.
Piglet in Bed also go the extra mile even before your order is delivered to your doorstep, pre-washing each piece of bed linen for extra softness and plumpness.
Overall, I can't believe it's taken my so long to try this brand, and urge anyone looking for a quality set of bedding that delivers on both comfort and style to browse Piglet in Bed's brilliant range of products.
✋ Reasons to avoid
There's no denying that these sheets are pricier compared to a lot of high street options out there, but I have to admit, the difference in quality is pretty major. Not only do they look more premium, they feel far superior, too. And, since you spend about half of your life asleep, I believe they’re a worthwhile investment.
