Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu Shows Us You Can Never Go Wrong In Double Denim
Bless the indefatigably upbeat marketing executive Emily Cooper and her relentlessly enthusiastic approach to getting dressed. 10/10 for effort and gusto, every time. But top marks for taste, and a shoo-in for series best dressed on Netflix jumbo hit Emily in Paris? It’s got to be Sylvie Grateau.
IRL, actor Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu doesn’t just equal her on-screen alter-ego’s style – she betters it. The star has a flair for French glamour with a swish of levity and edge; timeless and cutting edge all at once. Just see her fondness for Saint Laurent and ferociously proportioned shoulders.

Unfairly but understandably, you might think that double denim is off the agenda for a Parisienne. Mais non. Over the weekend Leroy-Beaulieu served up a masterclass in how to do it the chic way.
Appearing on the Good Morning America show, she wore a blue wash denim skirt suit by Schiaparelli – the same label she wore to the Emily In Paris season four premiere in Los Angeles. Rather than looking lazy or like the tragique faux pas of the past, this was a precise, elegant and playful take on double denim.
It's all in the details: note the exaggerated round shoulder of the jacket, the pencil skirt, the surrealist, very Schiap (as the brand’s fans are wont to call it) flourishes: a lips choker in gilded brass. The overall effect? Sexy, chic, bang on for now. Also seen at Chanel, Victoria Beckham and Versace for AW24 – full look denim has matured.
Schiaparelli is a French couture house helmed by an American – Daniel Roseberry, set to be honoured with the International Designer of the Year nod at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards this October – and as a bit of a reach, we might say this look is a bit of stealth diplomatic dressing.
See also the combination of all-American, true blue denim and Western cowboy-inspired mules with metal toe caps, executed in a very French way (the skirt suit, the lean silhouette, the just-threw-this-on white tee and 'no make-up make-up'). Leroy-Beaulieu is doing her bit for international relations and looking fabulous doing it.
Double impact denim is your best-of-both trend for autumn and winter, trust us.
