Peloton Instructor Leanne Hainsby has shared that she has been quietly and privately undergoing treatment for breast cancer since summer last year.

The fan favourite trainer on the at-home spin class app posted the news today, via her Instagram page. Alongside an image of herself in a hospital room, the 35-year-old shared some key milestones in her treatment, as well as an update on where she is at, now.

Of her diagnosis, the former dancer said: 'Two days before my best friend's [dancer Danielle Hampson] funeral, I found a lump in my breast. That really is a sentence I NEVER imagined writing. After multiple scans and appointments with both consultants and cancer nurses, and being completely terrified for a few weeks, in August 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.'

Leanne went on to write how she has kept her illness 'very private' up until now, choosing to 'show up as normal' where possible and continuing to host classes. While she has, she said, found that teaching gave her 'focus' and 'sparkle' amid the heaviness of the time, she added that going through cancer treatment while in the early stages of grieving the death of her best friend has been 'unimaginably tough'.

Leanne, who is engaged to fellow Peloton instructor Ben Alldis, went on to detail that she undertook a round of IVF ('we weren’t mentally prepared, but we got it done and we’re so grateful') ahead of going into chemotherapy, which she has now completed 12 weeks of. Her treatment, she revealed, took place after her Wednesday morning live Peloton classes, after which she would meet her mum and go for treatment. 'Chemo is no joke. Cold caps are no joke', she wrote.

Leanne has also gone through surgery, and will next undergo 2 weeks of radiotherapy. Treatment, she said, will continue for 'a long time.' She also noted that she received some 'very good news' last week, which is excellent to hear.

When it comes to her aims with her post, the trainer said that she wants to raise awareness of the disease, stating that she is young to have been diagnosed with it. She also noted that she was initially told that everything was 'fine' by the first doctor she went to see about her lump, but then went for a second opinion. 'That saved my life', she wrote. 'Check, check and check again.'

Sending Leanne a lot of love as she goes through this remarkably hard time.
