The One Show star Lucy Siegle has opened up about how she was rushed to hospital after being left in ‘excruciating pain’.

The British environmental journalist, who often appears on the current affairs programme as a host, took to Instagram to share her medical emergency, as she posted a pretty snap of a garden with a blossom tree hanging over a bench.

In the caption, she wrote: "I had planned some lovely content for #earthday but things went awry. Spent the night in A&E with kidney stones. It was brutal. But if you’re going to scream in pain and throw up in public the unflappable and good humoured @epsom_sthelier emergency staff are the people to do it with. Thanks guys.

"Hope your Earth Day evening went better than mine but here’s a picture of the blossoming apple tree that greeted me when I came home this morning!"

Her followers flooded the comments with their well-wishes, as one wrote: "Hope you are pain free Lucy, keep well xxxx".

Another said: "Cuch! please get better soon," whilst a third commented: "Hope you get and stay pain free. Glad Epsom A&E looked after you well."

"Oh no! Poor you Lucy. Sounds hideous. Wishing you better," said a fourth.

Someone else drew on their own experience, writing: "I had lithotripsy for my kidney stone but wasn’t experiencing any pain before that. Worked well in breaking it up into smaller pieces and it passed 6 days later - albeit with horrendous pain and a nighttime visit to A&E (sorry). Hope it goes well for you."

Lucy replied to this comment, saying: "Oh no. I really don’t want another A&E episode."

A more reassuring comment read: "I feel your pain, been there done that. I had that treatment, you lie on your back in a puddle of water on a stainless steel table. They aim the sonic wave thing at the stone and it breaks up hopefully. I had two goes until it was gone. Not painful btw. Good luck."
