Anyone who has ever caught the night bus will likely testify that it can be a character building experience. Ditto the late night tube.

But when you’ve been living it up at the work Christmas shindig, your get home options are often limited. If only you could just be in a clean, quiet bed right now and sleep yourself home?

Well that might not be such a far-fetched dream, thanks to high-tech sleep brand, Simba.

Late-night bus travel is set for a major reboot thanks to the ‘snoozeliner’, which is set to hit British roads next year.

Bleary-eyed party-goers and weary shift workers could soon be taken home in the early hours on an ultra-luxe, next gen night bus fitted with beds, memory foam mattresses and sleep-inducing scents.

It is hoped the late night shuttles will operate eight routes across four UK cities including London, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham for next Autumn. So in time for those office Christmas parties.

Each bus will be fitted with 14 discreet futuristic pods and stewards will be on hand to wake passengers up before they reach their destination so they don’t miss their stop.

The cutting-edge sleep pods are being trialled with sound-isolating treatments and acoustic black-out blinds, together with a recessed amber light-therapy system for optimum sleep surroundings.

James Cox, Simba’s CEO says they came up with the idea after discovering that people doze off on public transport 27 times a year and are at their most sleep deprived in December.

“Shift working and nights out are real sleep thieves that can rack up a serious slumber-debt over time,” he explains. “For workers and party-goers alike – the prospect of walking straight into your bed as soon as you’ve finished is the dream, but for many it can involve a lengthy commute home when you’re shattered or a bit worse for wear.”

“We’re always looking at how we can use our technology to redefine an existing experience. The Simba Snoozeliner service is all about helping people top up some valuable lost sleep time in a design that’s every bit as comfortable as their bed at home.”

The mattress-maker is also in talks with a food delivery service to provide an advanced on-board system that will cleverly track your route, so you and your takeaway arrive home at the same time.

Unlimited free mineral water, with coffee and specially-selected smoothies will also be available on board with individual revitaliser kits containing Vitamin C and liver-cleansing Milk Thistle.

News of the snoozeliner launch comes as it is revealed by Simba that an enormous 94% of British workers have snuck in a cat nap on their commute, while 45% have dozed off on the way to or from a night out.

One in seven commuters have been so sleep-deprived they’ve nodded off on a tube platform, while two-thirds of us have slept for so long that we’ve ridden from one end of the line to the other.

While they’re in the land of nod the average Brit will travel an extra 40 miles past their scheduled stop each year, and have to drop in excess of £30 in extra travel fees to get back home.

“Deciding to grab 40 winks on public transport can be an inconvenience on your time and wallet, and no one likes the feeling of being woken by another passenger as your stop rushes by, or shaken awake as the train reaches the end of the line miles from home,” James Cox adds.

“We think exhausted commuters deserve better, and we hope the Simba Snoozeliners can serve as a much-needed service to the bed-craving masses of the UK’s biggest cities.”

“We know that there will be lots of red tape to wade through, but are looking forward to firming up meetings with local authorities in the New Year.”
