Is that a leg or a head? Anyone who’s ever studied a baby scan picture will know it’s not always that easy to tell. But a UK based company is offering an upgrade on those grainy black and white scan pictures.

Parents-to-be visiting Baby:Boo Scan in Tarleton, Lancashire are offered the opportunity to get a 3D-printed rendering of their unborn baby to frame or hang on the living room wall for everyone to see.

Each eight-inch cast of the face is sculpted using ultrasound data and converted into a 360-degree format before it is 3D printed. Giving the appearance of a sort of baby mask, the service is proving to be very popular with parents-to-be who are keen to stump up £150 for the ultimate baby keepsake.

“People do think it’s a little odd, but it’s similar to creating casts of baby’s feet or hands,” Baby:Boo owner Katie Kermode told The Mirror. “It’s actually a really lovely keepsake to cherish.”

But if hanging the model above your fireplace seems a little too odd, Baby:Boo also offer the 3D baby model in a box, so you can effectively hold your baby before its even born.

And the service isn’t just for parents who want to have a forever reminder of their little ones, because the 3D printouts of unborn children are also being used to help blind women visualise their unborn babies.
