Entering 2016 with an uninspiring wardrobe?

Ok, I’m going to be honest with you here, I am always looking for my next ‘Madonna’ moment.

I think - particularly at this time of year - we all flock to our wardrobes and dismay or celebrate the year’s fashion choices. I find myself rapidly throwing out most of my clothes in a bid to ‘cleanse’ my wardrobe for the new year.

However, what perhaps strikes me about ‘cleansing’ is how much it results in me standing in front of my wardrobe, horrified that I have so little perspective as to what to re-fill it with, until…

The App that’ll save our 2016 fashion..

One of my friends recently pointed me towards ‘Pinterest’. Now, forgive my ignorance, I know many of the fashion savvy have Pinterest as a way of harvesting ideas for their own looks, but I had never contemplated using it.

‘Pinterest’ is essentially an app filled with images of lifestyle, fashion, photography all of which you can ‘pin’ to your own online boards in order to map ideas, looks or things you just generally like.

After signing up, I typed in a few keywords for looks I had admired this year, in particular ‘minimalism’ and straight away, my feed became full. I found myself scrolling through huge amounts of fashion content with looks from other Pinterest users including looks from fashion houses and known bloggers.

With my board becoming full, I found myself shocked at how quickly I had honed in on a particular look and style which had been absent from my wardrobe this year. I also found many users posted where they had bought their look from, therefore within an instant I was able to buy a look I had been admiring moments before. Moving forward into 2016, I already had a reference for me to look to when shopping for my future wardrobe.

So, what is my advice to fellow fashion ‘cleansers’?

Before you even begin your cleansing, build your next wardrobe virtually. In sourcing looks, you can look to your old wardrobe, see what you already have and remove anything that doesn’t fit your new ideal. Therefore building your next wardrobe confidently and knowingly.
