Nando's, a favourite for many seeking out the iconic Peri Peri chicken and sumptuous sides, has been criticised lately due to escalating prices.

Devotees of the popular restaurant chain have said that a meal for two can now cost between £40 and £56, excluding alcoholic drinks – leaving them stunned.

According to The Sun, the price for a quarter chicken with two sides at Nando's has surged to £11.20. This item was priced at just £8.25 in August 2021, then increased to £8.75 by January 2022, jumped to £9.95 in January 2023, and reached £10.50 last August.

Other menu items at the Portuguese-inspired restaurant have seen hikes as high as 11% in just one year, a rise that's almost three times the current rate of inflation. The Fino Pitta and Sunset Burger (each with a side) are now costing customers £13, the mushroom and halloumi option with a side is up to £12.25, and the family-favourite full platter now stands at £25.75 – up 7% from the previous year.

Social media has been buzzing with comments from fans after trips to their local Nando's outlet. A TikTok user named Rick Purges vented: "Every time I go to Nando's, it gets more expensive."

He continued to express his disbelief, stating: "How is Nando's charging the same price as a steakhouse? Because steak's expensive, chicken's cheap. It is what it is. It's going to be hard because Nando's is my favourite but I'm not paying their prices any more."

One person commented on the video, stating: "I went in once with friends and handed a 50 quid note to them and they gave me about 4 quid change - and I've never been back."

Another added: "£6.50 for chips done me," while another agreed: "Nando's used to be cheap as chips," One other customer wrote: "Just got back! Was dead nice but it is pricy. £20 for a wrap meal But one individual pointed out: " However, one individual pointed out: "If you spend £27 at Nando's you're getting a lot more food than you'll get with a 27 quid steak."

Another video shared on @takwawaytrauma on TikTok was captioned: "People are NOT happy with Nando's."

One person said: "Went yesterday was £56 for two of us, no alcohol." Someone else wrote: "£40 for 2 meals last weekend. I remember the good old days that same meal including bottomless drinks being £25."

In another video, one individual shared how they were able to get Nando's for cheaper, and said: "Has anyone else resorted to getting a kids meal from Nando's now? Instead of paying £13+ for an adults meal. I pay £6.50 for this and it is the perfect amount of food. Makes eating out so much cheaper."

You can save money and get more chicken at Nando's, if you swap out butterfly chicken for half a chicken you can save money, as long as you don't mind bones. The half chicken not only has more meat but also comes in cheaper at £8.95 compared to the butterfly at £9.50.

You can whip up your own Nando's special, a garlic chicken burger, by ordering garlic bread for £3.75 and a quarter chicken for £5.50, according to Save the Student. You can also craft your own cheesy garlic bread by ordering a side of garlic bread and a slice of cheese for just £1.

Nando's has been contacted for comment.
