These are the stories making headlines in fashion on Thursday.

Sandra Stangl exits Banana Republic
President and CEO of the Banana Republic division of Gap Inc. Sandra Stangl is exiting the brand. The search for her successor is currently underway. "As we close out the first quarter of the year, Sandra and I have agreed to transition to new leadership for Banana Republic," Richard Dickson, Gap Inc. president and CEO, wrote in an internal memo circulated Wednesday, WWD reported. "Since Sandra joined the brand in December 2020, Banana Republic has made dramatic shifts to elevate the aesthetic and explore tangential categories that help us imagine the true potential of this brand." {WWD/paywalled}

Boscia is closing

It is currently offering 55% off all of its products on its website, which will officially close on May 31. Law Roach talks Zendaya and his retirement in The New York Times
Celebrity stylist Law Roach, well known for his longtime working relationship with Zendaya, sent shockwaves through the industry when he announced his retirement last March. In an interview with Vanessa Friedman of The New York Times, Roach opens up about his decision to retire, his goals for the future (including aspirations to buy a brand) and working closely with Zendaya. "I've been saying no to a lot of unhappy people," Roach tells Friedman. "Except Zendaya. I can't say no to her." {The New York Times/paywalled}

Inside the public's fascination with publicists
While PR has historically been a behind-the-scenes profession, fashion publicists are increasingly embracing more public profiles and press coverage for themselves, not just their clients. For example, Cait Bailey of Align Public Relations (who represents Alix Earle and Alexandra Cooper) has been profiled in The New York Times and Gia Kuan (with Area, Telfar and Luar as clients) was on the cover of Paper magazine's comeback issue in January. There's always been a sense of allure surrounding publicists, but now that fascination is focused on the nitty-gritty work and what a realistic day in their lives looks like. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}
