This is how much your Christmas dinner will cost you this year
Tackling your festive food shop? From the turkey to mince pies, the average cost of Christmas dinner in 2024 has been revealed.
According to a new BBC report, a family Christmas will cost £31.66 this year, down from last year's figure of £32.18.
Households will save on many festive favourites, including frozen turkey (4.55kg) which costs £1.21 less than it did in 2023. Brussels sprouts have also fallen by 12%, while pigs in blankets are 2% cheaper at £2.46 for 12, on average.
The BBC used the retail tracking platform Assosia to measure the annual change in price for products across Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Aldi and Lidl.
On the other hand, the cost of potatoes has risen by over 26% due to a shift in weather patterns.
"We've had a particularly wet spring so planting was difficult for any root crops, and then the autumn when crops are lifted and harvested, that was also very difficult," said Tracy Bush, co-director of Provenance Potatoes in Kent.
The cost of carrots has also increased, with farmers blaming wet weather for delaying their planting season.

The BBC also looked into how the cost of Christmas dinner varies depending on where you shop. Aldi came in at the cheapest for a basic list of essentials, followed by Asda and Morrisons. Tesco was the most expensive at £36.51.
