Foodies can cook cheap festive feast at Christmas – and it'll cost just £3.50pp

Christmas can notoriously burn a hole in your pocket, but it's fundamentally a time to cherish what we have and enjoy moments with those closest to us.

It doesn't mean you need to break the bank, particularly not for the Christmas feast. In fact, this year, you can rustle up a delightful, budget-friendly spread.

UK Newest Foods took to TikTok to showcase the Heron Foods Christmas dinner deal priced at £13.99, averaging an impressive £3.50 per person. The question on everyone's lips is – does it taste as good as it looks and what exactly does your money get you?

The meal deal includes "any six sides", a tempting selection featuring cauliflower cheese, carrots, Brussels sprouts, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, and roasties.

Meat-eaters and vegans alike have options with "gammon, turkey, or Quorn" to choose from, and she emphasised side selection is up to personal preference. With a hint of humour, she remarked: "Nobody really likes sprouts", suggesting many might leave these behind, although she decided to review the entire assortment.

However, she conceded one small irritation is that "annoyingly, everything does need to be cooked at different temperatures, at different times". But with a bit of coordination, she assured it can all be prepared together for "so it can all be done in one go. Because this is all about convenience".

Opting for this straightforward approach could lead to "less time in the kitchen on Christmas Day", freeing up more precious hours for family fun, according to her recommendation.

"It's quick, it's easy, and it's an absolutely brilliant price," she exclaimed. The meal seemed incredibly scrumptious as she served it, particularly as she topped it off with gravy, adding: "Everybody has gravy [granules] in the store cupboard."

The food critic acknowledged that while the offer might not stretch to four grown-up meals, it does provide two generous servings for adults and two for kids possibly fitting for three adults as well. Of course, appetite varies, and at Christmas time, it's customary to heap your plate.

Purchasing an additional bundle for bigger families is still cost-effective, totalling only £28 to serve up to six. She concluded: "It's quick, it's convenient, and it is actually tasty," sparking excitement among commenters eager to give it a go.

Someone remarked: "I'm a lone mother with 5 children, saving money is priority for me, this is such a bargain." Another individual commended: "Love this! I hope this shows people worried about Xmas food budgets while keeping simple is doable."

An extra comment read: "I like watching these videos it means families will be able to have a special, convenient and budget-priced Xmas dinner that's tasty."

One TikToker opined: "Good value but I think 2 adults. Nice you can pick sides." To which the food reviewer replied: "Even 2 huge portions for 2 adults for £13.99 is brilliant for a full Christmas dinner."
