This is the most popular cruise line in your state
The major cruise ports in the U.S. are concentrated around the coast, but cruise lines have fans all over the country.
A new study from sports betting and gaming entertainment company BetMGM analyzed Google Trends search data between August 2023 and 2024 to determine the most popular cruise lines in each state. The company analyzed regional interest in seven major cruise lines and compared them to determine state-by-state favorites.
“As you plan your next voyage, find out which cruise line is the favorite where you live – and maybe even discover a new destination to dream about along the way,” BetMGM said in the report. Here are the brands that took the top spots.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney was crowned the most popular line in 29 states, from Idaho to Maine.
“Its combination of family-friendly entertainment, top-tier service, and the allure of beloved Disney characters makes it a go-to choice for many, especially in states like California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, and Utah,” BetMGM said. “The popularity of Disney’s theme parks might play a role in this widespread interest, as families are eager to extend their magical experiences from land to sea.”
Carnival Cruise Line
The study found Carnival was particularly popular in the Southeast in states like Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and North and South Carolina, ranking number one in 11 states in total. BetMGM pointed to its variety of southern departure points, including cities like New Orleans and Mobile, as a possible factor in its “regional appeal.”
Princess Cruises
Princess dominated the Pacific Northwest, according to the study, ranking most popular in Washington and Oregon, as well as Alaska, Nevada and Arizona.
Virgin Voyages
Adults-only cruise line Virgin Voyages – a relative newcomer to the industry – emerged as the winner in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Georgia, BetMGM found.
Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity was most popular in Rhode Island and Florida, home to the country’s busiest ports.
“With so many options at their disposal, Floridians’ choice of Celebrity suggests a desire for a more refined and premium cruising experience, standing out among the many cruise lines that operate from the state’s numerous ports,” BetMGM said.
MSC Cruises
MSC nabbed the top spot in New York, where it launched year-round service in 2023. “The line’s mix of contemporary luxury and diverse itineraries resonates with travelers from the city that never sleeps,” the line said.
