The Princess of Wales has overtaken Prince William as the most popular Royal in the first poll of its kind since the late Queen's death.

The latest Ipsos favourability poll suggests that the Princess is the most liked member of the family, followed by her husband, the King's grandchildren and the Princess Royal.

The Duchess of Sussex was among the least popular family members on 10 per cent, along with the Queen Consort who also attracted only 10 per cent of mentions by those surveyed.

More than a third of the people surveyed said they liked Kate the most on 38 per cent, followed closely by Prince William on 34 per cent.

King Charles was the fifth most liked Royal, voted for by 20 per cent of respondents, followed by Prince Harry on 14 per cent and Prince Edward on 11 per cent.

Around 18 per cent said they liked no member of the Royal family.

Support for the Prince and Princess of Wales has been clear in previous surveys, with the couple following closely behind the late Queen in a May 2022 Ipsos poll, the final one to be conducted before her death last year.

The Ipsos survey also suggests that nearly half of the British public thinks Charles is performing well as King, with 49 per cent saying he is doing a good job as monarch.

Meanwhile, 32 per cent said he was doing neither a good nor bad job, and nine per cent said he was doing a bad job.

In a separate Ipsos poll, some 57 per cent said they were “satisfied” with the way Charles was performing, a decrease of eight percentage points since May 2022, when the same question was asked of his job as the Prince of Wales.

Prince William had a higher majority of public confidence, with 62 per cent saying they were satisfied with his job as the Prince of Wales.

'Numbers recent prime ministers would envy'

Kelly Beaver MBE, the chief executive of Ipsos UK and Ireland, said: “With less than two weeks until the Coronation, King Charles may be happy to know that half of Britons think he is already doing a good job, numbers recent prime ministers would envy.

“It’s a good start for Britain’s new King and something he will no doubt want to continue to work on once the Coronation Quiches are eaten and the bunting is down.”

Ipsos polled more than 4,000 adults in three samples between March 31 and April 11.
