Mocha Mousse is Pantone’s Colour of the Year — how to style it in your workout wardrobe
If there's one thing that Strava's 2024 Gear of the Year report made clear, it's that running gear is increasingly becoming as much about style as much as it is about performance. So if your running wardrobe is in need of a little refresh, then the news of Pantone's Colour of the Year is the perfect opportunity to branch out and embrace a new hue as we look ahead to the new year.
The Colour of the Year also reflects the general culture and vibe shift we expect to see as we transition into a new year. Pantone collaborates with the design community to identify which colour accurately captures the cultural mood and global zeitgeist.
And this year's winner is officially: Mocha Mousse. A deep, chocolatey, coffee-tinged cocoa colour that evokes warmth, wellness, and comfort. If you ask us, it’s the ultimate winter tone to experiment with.
'Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence. Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic,' said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Of course, not everyone agrees that it is the culturally relevant Colour of the Year – Strava's Gear of the Year report suggests blue is the new black when it comes to workout gear.
Still,, if you're looking to give your activewear wardrobe a stylish refresh, here are some ways to style Mocha Mousse in 2025.

With the general culture leaning towards a return to the world of minimalism (and what could this mean), this simple and timeless hue surely fits the bill. It also inspires the return to the natural world around us, with sustainable fabrics and ethical design at the forefront when it comes to consuming fashion.
Though not everyone agrees that it is the Colour of the Year culturally - surely Brat Green, Glinda Pink or Elphaba Scarlett have some legs here, and could this be the apotheosis of the 'sad beige' movement - we're not entirely against embracing the hue and the wellness inspiring energy it exudes this winter. Maybe ask us again in summer.
Until then, we're certainly listening...
How to style brown without being boring
Yes, brown is effortlessly timeless, but it's easy to be beige-washed and feel a bit boring when we lean on it too heavily. Luckily, there are ample ways to style the colour in new and exciting ways.
Complimentary and Contrasting Colours
A good juxtaposition in fashion is the simplest way to spice up a simple look. Look for complementary colours like creams, baby pinks, deep chocolates, or other neutrals to add variation. Alternatively, choose bold contrasting hues such as cornflower blue, lilacs, violets, bright pinks, yellows, and greens.
Monochrome
On the other hand, stick to just one colour throughout your entire look to keep it clean, simple and elegant. Style notes? Meghan Markle nailed monochromatic dressing on the reg, Quinta Brunson loves an all-one-tone chocolate 'fit, and VP Kamala Harris nailed the tan suit ensemble.
Accessories Are Key
In the past few months, deep brown suede accessories have become a must-have. Upgrade your gym bag with H&M's version, which closely resembles The Row's trending luxury tote. Otherwise, opt for brown suede trainers or boots, or an oversized chocolate-y tote.
