From Harper's BAZAAR

If you've been frustrated losing your actual mind over news stories in 2017, Merriam-Webster is here, once again, to save the day. Swooping in with the glimmer of hope we all needed, the dictionary announced today that it has officially added "shade" to the dictionary.

They shared the news on Twitter with an accompanying gif reminding us all that Merriam-Webster isn't your regular dictionary, it's a cool dictionary!

It all makes perfect sense as the dictionary has mastered the art of shade and sass on Twitter under the Trump administration.

Merriam-Webster's official definition for shade reads as:

"US slang

  1. : to express contempt or disrespect for someone publicly especially by subtle or indirect insults or criticisms <Christopher Oram's elegant set is a pillared palazzo; at cafe tables wasp-waisted women sip tiny cups of espresso and throw shade at their rivals from behind dark glasses … - Sam Marlowe>"

This, of course, is a monumental day for shade-throwers across the globe, whose own personal art has finally achieved the literary recognition it deserves.

In addition to shade, the dictionary also added over 1,000 new words including binge-watch, fast fashion, political truther, Seussian and more.

What a time to be alive.
