Most memorable Met Gala looks, from Rihanna's 'omelette' dress to Beyonce's latex look
On Monday 6 May 2019, the annual Met Gala rolls around again. The biggest fundraising event in the fashion calendar, the gala (held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, hence the name) is one hot ticket and attended by the biggest names in the film, fashion and art worlds.
Each gala marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit and the night is centred on the theme of the new exhibition.
Since 1995, the event’s been hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who enlists the help of A-list friends as her co-chairs. This year’s Met Gala will see Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams and Alessandro Michele of Gucci chair the event alongside Wintour. The theme is ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, so expect some bold sartorial choices.
Previous themes have ranged from ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ to ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ and have inspired numerous, memorable celebrity outfits. Who could forget the yellow ‘omelette’ dress Rihanna wore in 2015? Or the backless lace number Madonna donned in 2016?
From Blake Lively to Amal Clooney, Emma Watson, Katy Perry and more, scroll through to see the A-lister Met Gala looks that will never be forgotten.
