Why Meghan Markle is wearing shorter skirts while pregnant – just like the Duchess of Cambridge did

Meghan Markle has favoured shorter hemlines in recent months, and apparently it’s all down to her pregnancy.

Stepping out in several mini-length dresses in recent months, Meghan, 37, has strayed away from the usual custom among royal women to wear knee-length hemlines.

The Duchess of Cambridge did the same during her three pregnancies.

Personal stylist Keren Beaumont told Yahoo Style UK this could all be down to strategic maternity dressing.

Meghan knows what suits her – from expensive basics to her bateau neck Givenchy wedding dress – and it seems she is comfortable adjusting her signature style to suit her changing figure.

Keren says: “When a woman becomes pregnant and sees her body shape evolving, this can often call for a change in her usual formula for dressing.

“In addition to a shape change, many pregnant women experience physical discomfort when wearing tight fitting garments around their middle area.

“A naturally slim woman such as Meghan or Kate who would normally wear form fitting silhouettes suddenly finds herself in a situation where she needs to wear slightly roomier shapes around her middle.”

Wearing baggy clothes can drown a woman, which is why shorter hemlines come in handy, Keren explains.

“Being in the public eye, these women will still be very conscious of wanting to look great, so they will offset these larger silhouettes by making the most of the assets that don’t change as much in pregnancy, especially their legs in the case of the two ladies in question.”

“Both are blessed with long slim legs which are showcased beautifully in higher hemlines.”

So, will any other aspects of Meghan’s wardrobe change during her pregnancy? The Duchess of Sussex famously wears a limited colour palette, but Keren believes this may change later as her due date nears.

“It is possible that Meghan will start introducing a little more colour and print to her look once she gets further into her pregnancy, breaking her trademark palette to draw attention to her beautiful colouring and skin tone.”
