Meghan Markle reveals awkward moment after charity donation
It was a big day for the Duchess of Sussex on Thursday as her first patronages were announced by Kensington Palace.
Meghan visited one of the organisations that morning, Smart Works, a charity which helps long-term unemployed and vulnerable women regain the skills, confidence and tools to succeed at job interviews so they can return to employment.
One of the ways in which they do this is by assisting women to find outfits for job interviews.
During her meeting with Smart Works in London, former actress Meghan turned stylist as she helped clients find outfits for their job interviews.
And the Duchess, who has been making private visits to her patronages over the past year, revealed there was an awkward moment when one of her donations was rejected by one client.
Meghan said, with a laugh: “The last time I was here I suggested a purse to someone.
“It was one that I donated and she didn’t like and I was like ‘oh OK’. I thought it was great.”
The Duchess, who is expecting her and Prince Harry’s first child this spring, wore an Oscar de la Renta coat and a black dress by maternity label Hutch for her first engagement of the year.
But it was her cow-print heels (thought to be from Gianvito Rossi) that were the focal point.
First spotted in an Instagram photo of her shoe collection that the Duchess uploaded back when she had social media, the patterned heels are arguably the boldest footwear the 37-year-old’s worn as a member of the Royal Family.
Meghan and Harry have a busy week of duties next week, with a visit to Birkenhead in Merseyside on Monday 14 January and the premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s Totem, in support of Sentebale, on Wednesday night.
During the day on Wednesday, Meghan will visit another of her new patronages, Mayhew, an animal welfare charity.
