Meghan Markle wore an aquamarine ring once owned by Princess Diana during a royal engagement in Tonga.

Accompanied by husband Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex – who is currently pregnant with her first child – was hosted by the King of Tonga at a formal dinner event.

Meghan and Harry are currently on a 16 day royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.

The Duchess was pictured wearing the Asprey ring, a large emerald-cut aquamarine clasped between six rows of pearls.

For the event, Meghan wore a floor-length white cap-sleeve beaded silk gown by Theia which has now sold out on the brand’s website.

The outfit was paired with Birks diamond earrings and a Givenchy clutch, as well as the special ring.

This is the second time she has worn her late mother-in-law’s ring, which she first wore for her wedding reception on 19 May this year.

The piece was believed to have been commissioned by Diana after her divorce to Prince Charles. The late princess was pictured wearing the ring during an auction of her own wardrobe at Christie’s.

Princess Diana left her jewellery to both her sons in her will so that their wives might one day wear it – and Meghan has fulfilled her wish in re-wearing the gem.
