The Duke of Sussex has suggested he is hoping his pregnant wife Meghan is expecting a baby girl.

While watching the road cycling event of the Invictus Games on Sunday, a well-wisher was captured on camera shouting to Prince Harry: “Congratulations, I hope it’s a girl!”

The Duke responded: “So do I!”

The couple are expecting their first child in spring 2019. Their baby news was announced just hours after they arrived in Australia last Monday for their royal tour.

During his Invictus Games opening ceremony speech on Saturday, Prince Harry expressed his joy about being a father-to-be.

“I have been so proud to be able to introduce my wife to you and we have been so happy to be able to celebrate the personal joy of our newest addition with you all.”

The royal couple have had a packed schedule from day 1 of their overseas visits, with 76 engagements on their itinerary over the 16-day tour.

Meghan, who is believed to be around four months pregnant, has taken some time out to rest and did not join her husband at the cycling event or for the first part of the day on Fraser Island on Monday.

The Duchess is expected to resume her full schedule from Tuesday.
