Maya Jama left King Charles in stitches with a cheeky Love Island quip during a star-studded Buckingham Palace garden party. The TV presenter and host of the hit ITV2 dating show sparked a light-hearted moment with the King at the garden party celebrating the creative industries.

Upon meeting the monarch, 29 year old Maya introduced herself, saying to the Charles: "I host Love Island. I don't know if you've watched it? It's a reality dating show."

King Charles, 75, quipped back: "There's one born every minute."

When asked about her future plans, Maya told the King: “I’m just about to go to Spain to film some young people snog someone”, promising a new lineup of singles eager for romance in the well-known villa, reports the Mirror.

The new series of the iconic show is just weeks away – and the first reported contestant has been revealed.

Meanwhile, other celebrities in attendance at the garden party included documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux, Hollywood director Sir Ridley Scott, artist Tracey Emin, Tess Daly and Vernon Kay.

When asked if the King appreciates his documentaries, Sir Ridley Scott quipped: "I couldn't tell if (Charles) was a fan, but I would love to say he is."

The famed Hollywood director is known for blockbusters like Gladiator and Alien and he expressed feeling "incredibly honoured" to be part of the event. Queried on whether the King loves his films, he cheekily said: "No idea. But they've to watch something at night don't they? ".

Approximately 4,000 representatives from the world of culture, art, heritage, film, TV, radio and fashion were in attendance.

Charles, who is continuing his return to public duties following his cancer diagnosis, wore a grey suit and pink waistcoat and top hat. He smiled to the gathered crowd as he entered the garden from the palace.

Queen Camilla, meanwhile, wore a pale pink fringed coat dress by Anna Valentine with a co-ordinating Philip Treacy hat, and accessorised her outfit with the late Queen’s pink diamond flower brooch.

The royal couple stood at the top of the garden steps to observe the national anthem before the crowd applauded.

Charles has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer since early February. He has returned to public duties, including conducting his first investiture ceremony for five months at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, 14 May.

This week he also unveiled the first completed official portrait of himself since the coronation, which includes one detail that was added at his suggestion.
