New Masterchef host Grace Dent on her obsession with Krave cereal
Grace Dent has now been revealed as the co-host for the next series of Celebrity MasterChef, replacing Gregg Wallace alongside John Torode. Before the announcement, the food critic revealed some of her favourite simple pleasures to Good Housekeeping, in our November 2024 issue.
Grace Dent's favourite things
Here, she shares her love of late night cereal, nostalgic telly and posh pyjamas - warm from the radiator.
Making pottery
I took up pottery a few years ago and thought I’d be a natural because I’m quite artistic. But I seem to specialise in very small pots for tapas with holes in – I’m so bad at getting the clay off the wheel! I’ll just have to accept that there’s never going to be a Grace Dent ceramics range in Habitat...
TV reruns
My happy place is BBC Four at 7pm on a Friday night, when they show old episodes of Top Of The Pops. It takes me back to being a kid and fighting for that half-hour of TV. I watch a lot of vintage sitcoms on YouTube, too, such as Only When I Laugh and Porridge, the stuff I used to watch with my dad.
My Eberjey Pyjamas
I spend a lot of time in fancy dresses, tight underwear and high heels for work, so at home I love wearing my Eberjey pyjamas. Before I leave, I put them on the radiator so they’re warm when I get home!

Snacking on cereal
My partner Charlie buys boxes of Kellogg’s Krave cereal, and I have to tell him not to bring it in the house or I’ll be at the kitchen cupboard at 3am eating handfuls of the stuff. It’s like sleep eating!
My cats
I have three cats of my own – Missy, Gino and Shrimp - and one that I’ve sort of adopted called Marmalade. She has owners, but I always fifind her in my house! They fifight, but Shrimp and Marmalade touch noses in the morning like a truce and from that moment on, they’re tearing around the garden.
My Cherry Tree
I’ve lived in my house for 20 years, but I didn’t manage to conquer the garden until a few years ago. I planted a cherry tree and I love it more than some members of my own family! The other day, it started to grow new leaves – I was so excited I sent photos to Charlie.
South west Scotland
Growing up in the north of England, we’d often go on family holidays to Gatehouse of Fleet, Stranraer [below], Creetown and Kirkcudbright in south-west Scotland. They’re not very touristy – just huge, windswept beaches, rock pools and cafes where you can get a pasty in a paper bag. Those places will always hold special memories of my mum, dad, gran and grandad.
Historial podcasts
I listen to a historical podcast every day; I’m obsessed with the monarchs and court life. Charlie Higson’s Willy Willy Harry Stee... podcast, which is a guide to the monarchy, is just brilliant. I studied history at A level and didn’t think much about it after that, so I’m going back and plugging the gaps in my knowledge.
