Massachusetts Woman, 80, Dies After Getting Struck and Trapped Underneath Her Car

Car.An elderly woman has died in Massachusetts after her car rolled over her body.
First responders rushed to the scene on Fieldcrest Terrace just after 7:45 p.m. local time on Nov. 29 after receiving a report of a person trapped underneath a motor vehicle, according to the North Reading Police Department.
Investigators believe the Buick Regal “rolled backwards and struck” the 80-year-old woman, per the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Upon arrival, crews found the woman stuck underneath the car in her driveway. There was no one inside the car at the time of the incident.
The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
She has been identified as Roselyn Gray, a former Cambridge school teacher, according to CBS affiliate WBZ-TV. She was also a member of the North Reading Moose Lodge.

“We all love her,” Gray’s friend Steve Brosseau said. “She was such a witty person.”
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Sections is working to “determine what caused the car to roll,” according to the district attorney’s office.
A funeral for Gray was held on Friday, per her obituary.

Dozens of people are killed by rollaway cars every year in the United States, and thousands are injured.
Between 2016 and 2020, 718 people were killed and more than 9,500 were injured by rollaway cars with no occupants inside, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
On average, 144 people died each year during that period, while 1,911 were injured.
