Mary Earps wins BBC Sports Personality of Year 2023
It was a well-deserved win for Mary Earps last night at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards following a mega successful year for the Lioness goalkeeper. Having confessed at one point she almost quit professional football, Mary went on to help the England Women's squad make it all the way to the FIFA Women's World Cup final and went on to win the coveted Golden Glove award.
We couldn't be happier for her winning the public-voted Sports Personality of the Year, and here on the Women's Health fashion desk we think her unreal style for the event deserves to be celebrated too.
We're used to seeing Mary in her England goalkeeper shirt more often than not, however, as of late she's been proving she can slay on and off the pitch – following in the footsteps of fellow stylish Lionesses Leah Williamson and Chloe Kelly.
Case in point: the stunning David Koma dress she stepped out in last night. Mary's most daring ensemble yet and it's safe to say she looked absolutely amazing.
See her look for yourself:
The bodice of the dress was constructed from sheer black lace and featured a plunging neckline and lingerie-esque boning with *huge* cut-outs at either side of Mary's torso. The skirt of the design was a low-slung figure-skimming black maxi style, with Dune London’s Madrina black strappy heeled sandals just visible beneath the hem.
Perhaps her best accessory was the smile she had on her face all night.
We loved Mary's bow-adorned red strapless mini dress she wore at a British Vogue party last month, but this look is on another level. Ticking off multiple trends including naked dressing, lace, cut-outs and the underwear as outerwear trend, we're calling it – Mary is in her fashion girlie era, and we are *so* here for it. After all, women can love both sport and fashion, the two are not mutually exclusive.
All hail Queen Mary!
