Martin Clunes 'in his element' in 'beautiful' Wales ahead of new ITV drama series
A new six-part drama starring Doc Martin's Martin Clunes is set to hit screens this January, ITV have announced. Out There, follows Martin Clunes as farmer Nathan Williams confronted with dark forces creeping into his rural community.
In the series, Nathan is grieving the death of his wife two years prior as he embarks on a mission to protect his son and livelihood from the threat of local county lines drug dealers. The thriller was filmed entirely in Wales and utilised local Welsh talent for the cast and crew and Martin has revealed that he "really loved" shooting the project in Wales
The show was written by Ed Whitmore and Welsh-born director Marc Evans, who recently created BBC's Steeltown Murders, which followed the hunt for a killer in Port Talbot. Marc Evans said filming explored "beautiful and rarely seen areas around the Black Mountains", which spread across parts of Powys and Monmouthshire.

Out There also stars Welsh actor Mark Lewis Jones, who recently appeared in BBC's Men Up, as Nathan’s brother Caleb Williams. Carly-Sophia Davies and Gerran Howell also appear as sister and brother Sadie and Rhys, whose lives are embroiled in county lines crime, and Natalia Kostrzewa as Eva, a cleaner who is drawn into the fight against the dark forces.
The thriller series was first announced back in September 2023. The first episode will air at 9pm on Sunday, January 19. A synopsis for the show reads: "The drama will depict the stealthy, surreptitious invasion of the land our farmer cherishes, with devastating consequences, as his livelihood, homestead and family life are threatened by local county lines drugs dealers, essentially urban gangs using the British countryside as a field of operations, moving drugs and money between their inner-city hubs and provincial areas."
At the time of the show's announcement, Martin Clunes said: "I’m very happy to be working with Marc Evans and Ed Whitmore again after the success of Manhunt. Out There couldn’t be more different from Doc Martin. It’s pretty dark, but definitely a story worth telling."
Out There will air at 9pm on Sunday 19th January on ITV1 and ITVX
