Marks & Spencer has made the £35 dress of the summer
Every so often, high street giant Marks & Spencer drops a new piece that's an instant hit with fashion lovers. This season's hero? A £35 bandeau midi dress from the brand's new spring/summer drop that feels made for our holiday capsule wardrobes.
Originally only available in cream when it launched last week, M&S has kept its ears to the ground and heard shoppers' cries for more colours. Sure enough, a black version has now promptly launched too, and we reckon more options might follow.
Though cut to a divisive bodycon style from stretchy ribbed fabric, the first reviews claim that rather than clinging to the body, it 'hangs perfectly' with a slightly oversized fit (so, consider sizing down if you do want that more fitted look).
Note its little overlay, too, which not only adds chic interest but also makes it ideal for hiding any strapless bras or underwear lines.
Though offered in sizes six to 24, it's predictably flying off the shelves, with some sizes already gone. We're hoping for a speedy restock, but if yours is still available, we recommend snapping it up quickly.
So how to style this latest M&S gem? We'll be pairing ours with chunky gold earrings (Sienna Miller's Missoma favourites, perhaps), gold strappy sandals and a raffia clutch for cocktails on the beach. It could also make an elegant wedding guest dress, reminding us of our Fashion Director Oonagh Brennan's dream Toteme style.
Including that dress in her occasionwear edit last summer, Oonagh said: "With a really simple classic dress like this you need to keep your accessories really elegant", showing how she styled hers with cream mules.
To wear this dress to the office, just add a tonal blazer and some ballet flats (the on-trend studded style would look particularly cool with this dress). Or, dress it down with a trusty trench coat, trainers and a crossbody bag.
