The Royal Family's many Christmas outfits charted
Christmas for the Royal Family is steeped in tradition, from what they eat to their schedule for the day.
There’s also the importance of what everyone wears and fans of the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex will be keen to see their Christmas Day style.
But did you know that the royals change several times throughout the day? And it could require up to seven outfits.
Aside from the annual church service, Christmas at the Queen’s Sandringham estate is a private time for the family. While we usually only get to see them once on Christmas Day, royal experts have spoken to Yahoo UK‘s The Royal Box about why they change outfits so often and the dress code for each part of their schedule.
Royal correspondent Victoria Murphy believes that the seven outfit changes also incorporates Christmas Eve.
She says: “If you were looking at those seven, then you would have the afternoon tea for Christmas Eve, and that would mean a day dress.
“And then you would have the dinner on Christmas Eve, so more formal evening wear.”
Formal royal butler Grant Harrold explains they could adhere to a black-tie dress code, which would include floor-length gowns for the female members of the family and tuxedos for the males.
That then leaves five outfits for Christmas Day itself.
Murphy says: “One for breakfast, one for church, one for lunch, one for afternoon and one for dinner.”
We suspect this could indicate a smart-casual outfit for the morning, followed by formal attire for church and their traditional turkey lunch.
It’s believed that in the afternoon, after watching the Queen’s speech, the royals like to head out on a country walk around the estate and that would require an off-duty ensemble, before changing into evening wear for dinner.
