Maisie Smith and Max George's awkward reaction as they're quizzed on marriage
Things on Good Morning Britain became awkward when host Ed Balls asked Maisie Smith and Max George an odd question about marriage. The couple - who met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 - appeared on the ITV show together on Monday, 15 April to discuss their new roles in a theatre production.
The Wanted singer Max, 35, and ex-EastEnders actress Maisie, 22, will be starring in the iconic Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds The Spirit of Man arena tour in 2025. They will portray married couple Nathaniel and Beth in the production, after auditioning together and bagging the roles.
As the pair shared their excitement over their new venture on GMB, Ed, 57, jumped in to ask Max and Maisie if they had been "practising" for their theatre roles - leaving Maisie visibly confused.
"Did you practise in advance? To be married?" Ed awkwardly asked the couple. Looking confused, Maisie began to laugh before exclaiming: "To be married?!"
Max appeared to share his girlfriend's confusion, and he stated: "I mean we live with each other and argue." Maisie then interrupted, saying: "We spend enough time to probably know what it's like."
Max then tried to steer the interview back to the topic of the theatre production. He continued to share how excited he and Maisie both are to take to the stage together as Ed remained silent.
Maisie and Max announced they will be starring in The War of The Worlds on 15 April, both on GMB and social media. It will mark the first time Maisie will sing on stage, while it will be Max's first time acting. It also marks the first time Jeff Wayne has casted a real-life couple in the roles of Nathaniel and Beth in The War of The Worlds.
Jeff said of casting the couple: "The moment I met Max and Maisie I knew they were the perfect fit for the role of Nathaniel and Beth. Maisie has such a melodic but powerful voice, which compliments Max's dramatic vocals wonderfully.
"Plus, being a couple in real life will add to their on-stage charisma and chemistry, and I'm delighted they've joined the 2025 The Spirit of Man Tour as husband and wife."
Maisie said she is "thrilled" to be involved in the iconic show as she "grew up listening to the soundtrack" and her family are "huge fans". Meanwhile, Max said he is "buzzing" about making his acting debut and is looking forward to making the role "his own".
The tour will kick off in March 2025 and conclude at the end of April. The production will visit cities such as Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.
