I’m Swapping My Jeans for Jennifer Lopez’s Sexy Style That’s Actually So Flattering

Oh, what I would give to tour Jennifer Lopez’s denim collection. She can pretty much make any style of jeans look amazing—from flared to baggy, ultra-baggy to barrel-leg. And, yet again, she’s sold me on another controversial cut.
The style icon stepped out twice in the last week wearing similar outfits that teamed a sheer blouse with—brace for it—very low-rise jeans. Her most recent menswear-inspired look included a waistline that sat several inches below her visible belly button, but thanks to a leg-elongating bootcut hem and platform peep-toe heels, her denim style was surprisingly so flattering.
Like Lopez, I’m a petite girl with curves, but I always assumed the Y2K style wouldn’t do me any favors. I’ve stayed loyal to my Gen Z-affinity for high-rise denim, though, now that I think about it, they can shorten my already-short torso. Meanwhile, J.Lo’s looking long and lean, so low-rise jeans might just be the key to optically extending your height. I’ll give any style a try if it can perform that kind of magic trick.
Below, I found eight low-rise denim styles from $35 that are as flattering as they are comfortable.

Levi’s Superlow Boot Jean
If you’re hesitant to try a new cut, start with a trusty brand like Levi’s. This early-aughts inspired style is slightly stretchy with a bootcut hem and comes in 11 colors if J.Lo’s light wash isn’t your jam. “These feel like vintage jeans because of the low stretch,” said one shopper. “I was nervous because I haven’t ordered low-rise jeans in like 10 years and they fit amazing!” And don’t be turned off by the name: “The low rise isn't like Christina Aguilera circa 2002,” said another reviewer. “It's just low enough to be flattering.”
Reformation Rayna Low-Rise Bootcut Jean
It’s a good day when trendy Reformation jeans are on sale. Defined by stretch denim fabric, slim-fitting legs, and a similar hem detail to Lopez’s, this style is easy and versatile for everyday wear. Pair it with a cardigan and kitten-heel boots for brunch or balance proportions with a boyfriend-style tee when keeping things low-key.
Abercrombie Curve Love Low Rise Boot Jean
Abercrombie’s Curve Love Low-Rise Boot Jeans are ideal for the denim-lover who prefers a looser feel. It lifts the booty thanks to a snug fit through the waist, hips, and thighs and softly drapes down through the bootcut leg. One Abercrombie customer says they’re “super comfortable and flattering,” and are the “perfect pants to ease back into low-rise” silhouettes. You can snag this double-deal for just $51 right now—but act fast as sizes are selling out.
American Eagle Next Level Low-Rise Kick Bootcut Jean
High-waisted jeans provide an extra bit of coverage in winter weather that low-rise styles lack, but, according to one shopper, these “heavy-weight” jeans from American Eagle are “great for cold days.” They feature a loose flare below the knee, and they’re nice and stretchy but will still maintain their shape over time. “I wore these once and my boyfriend couldn’t stop raving how amazing they look on me,” said a shopper, while another said they “feel snatched” in the pair. *Adds to cart.*
