After landing on our screens in 2006, The Holiday instantly became a Christmas classic. To recap, the film follows Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) and Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) who decide to swap homes for the festive period after experiencing their own version of heartbreak. While Iris fell in love with Miles Dumont (Jack Black) in the US, Amanda fell for Iris' brother Graham (Jude Law) in the UK, and the film centres around each couple's blossoming romance.

However, it's come to light that Cameron and Jude's chemistry on screen wasn't just acting. Rather, they both actually developed feelings for each other while filming. For some context, back in 2006, both A listers were single. Cameron had recently broken up with Justin Timberlake, while Jude's marriage to Sienna Miller had ended.

In 2007, the year after the film was released, a source reported that Jude flew to America to spend some time with Cameron. "Cameron and Jude became very close while working together, but now that friendship has turned into a romance," they said at the time.

Despite their feelings for each other - and their respective splits - the source then admitted that they both weren't ready "to jump into anything too quickly." Even though the romance never reached full bloom, Cameron did share her feelings towards Jude.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror around the same time, the 51 year old said: "Everyone has a preconceived idea about Jude which does not correspond to reality. The character he plays in The Holiday is very like him. He's charismatic, fun, open and charming. It's very easy to fall in love with him."

Then, five years after The Holiday's release in 2011, the actors sparked another relationship rumour after they were reportedly spotted together when Cameron was in London filming Gambit.

A source told Star magazine that they had gotten in touch with each other but were keeping it casual. "They have great chemistry, and since they're both free, they started hooking up. He's just showing Cam a good time!" they shared.

Of course, we all know that both instances never amounted to anything, as Cameron went on to marry Benji Madden, the lead guitarist of the pop punk band Good Charlotte. The couple also welcomed a daughter in 2019 called Raddix.

Meanwhile, Jude married his girlfriend Phillipa Coan in 2019 and the couple have two children together. The 50 year old also has three children with his first wife, actor Sadie Frost - Raff, born in 1996, Iris, born in 2000 and Rudy, born in 2002.

Elsewhere, Jude's fourth child, Sophia, was born to the American model Samantha Burke in 2009, while Ada, his fifth child was born in 2015, to Catherine Harding.

The Holiday is available to stream on Netflix and is also on Channel 5 on Christmas Eve at 11.15am
