Luke Bryan is opening up about life at home with his teenage boys.

On the Wednesday, March 5 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the American Idol judge, 48, gave an update on his two boys, Tatum "Tate" Christopher Bryan, 14, and Thomas "Bo" Boyer Bryan, 16, whom he shares with his wife Caroline Bryan. He told co-hosts Mark Consuelos, 53, and Kelly Ripa, 54, that they are doing "all forms of sports," which results in the family having to cancel vacations due to their game schedules.

"Their sports have hijacked my wife’s life, mainly," Bryan said. "We love planning trips and then canceling them for travel baseball schedule, but they’re amazing. We're having a blast."

"I think [Carrie Underwood] and I have fun because [my children] are a few years older than hers, so I know where she’s at in her path, raising two boys, and then I know where I’m at in my path," he added of his and fellow American Idol co-host Carrie Underwood's parenting journeys.

"One driving is always… terrifying. And obviously I’ve got my nephew who lives with us too, he’s 23 now. So he’s trying to go and conquer life. But the boys are great, they’re my buddies. We hang out now!"

According to Bryan, this current stage of life with his sons is proving to be one of the most exciting so far.

"As they grow older, it's easier to let them tag along," Luke told PEOPLE in July 2021. "They become little men and they become functional little microcosms of me. Their personalities are really different … They become your buddies. I mean, they're still your kids, you still have to do the discipline and you still have to teach them the right and wrongs of life, but they really morph into your buddies."

"And I'm certainly in the golden years," Bryan continued. "I mean, it's like the sweet spot of being a dad right now and you can let them tag along."

The proud dad of two has only one goal with his new album, Mind of a Country Boy — to make it on his sons' playlists. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in October 2024, Bryan spoke about his album, noting that he'd love for his sons to create playlists with his songs on them.

“It’s fun. And you know, I’m at home with my boys and they’re hearing the songs," Bryan said. "My goal is to try to enter into their daily playlist on their phones."

“If you can enter into to your [teenager’s] playlist, you know, with all their stuff, because my children get on the farm, and then they have these little speakers on their little side-by-sides," he continued. "And then they start blasting hip-hop and rap across the farm. And there’s like boom, boom, boom."

"And they’re saying all the words they’re not supposed to be saying. And then they pull back around the lake and it’s like, the Mind of a Country Boy. Then I hear that on their speaker. I’m like, ‘What have y’all been listening to?’ They’re like, ‘Your album Dad,' " Bryan joked.
