Love Island's Maya Jama leaves ITV bosses 'reeling' with cryptic Netflix post

Maya Jama has reportedly left ITV bosses 'reeling' after she shared a cryptic snap, which mysteriously pointed to Netflix, to Instagram this week. The Love Island host, 29, set tongues wagging after she posted an ambiguous snap to Instagram of a drink in a Netflix cup, suggesting that perhaps she would be joining the streaming giant.

Maya stepped into the Love Island presenting role back in 2022, when former show host Laura Whitmore decided to move on to pursue other projects. Maya was a big hit with contestants and viewers from day one, due to her encyclopaedic knowledge of the show and easygoing charm.

So while at first glance, Maya's snap of a cup of tea looks harmless - it's clear to see that the glass actually has the Netflix logo etched into it. A source told The Sun that the cryptic snap would be 'enough' to send ITV bosses 'reeling'.

The source told the publication: "On face value, the photo was simply a cup of herbal tea resting on a boardroom table. But it was enough to send bosses at ITV reeling.

"She’s a piping-hot commodity and is justified in feeling proud of meeting with Netflix, but the message it sent was crystal clear — Maya is open to offers."

The source added that Maya has "boosted" viewers in the 16 to 24 age group "immeasurably" since taking over from former host Irish beauty Laura and that she's an "asset to ITV."

They continued: "And it is why Netflix wants her, too. The fact is ITV probably need her more than she needs them, and she knows it."

A representative for ITV's Love Island did not comment when contacted by OK!.

It comes as fellow ITV star Holly Willoughby is set to host reality Bear Hunt on Netflix with Bear Grylls and Britain's Got Talent star Amanda Holden has also reportedly signed a deal with the streaming giant to front a brand-new series.

Last week Love Island unveiled its first teaser trailer ahead of the highly-anticipated season 11 launch. The ITV2 dating show, is rumoured to be returning on Monday, June 3, meaning it’s just a month until another batch of lovelorn contestants enter the villa in the hope of finding their perfect partner.

Traditionally, from the show’s third season onwards, it has always kicked off in the first week of June, with one notable exception being the 2021 series which began airing on 28 June, following a postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The latest series will also mark the second to have aired this year, following on from the success of the very first All Stars series back in January, which welcomed former contestants back to the villa for a second shot at finding love.

Maya may be busy preparing for her next villa stint as she's recently returned from a sun-soaked holiday in California. Maya was among the stars spotted partying at Coachella, which sees fans descend into the desert to see some of the biggest names in music perform.
