Love Island's latest season has some viewers gripped with its unexpected twists and turns.

However, other fans of the beloved ITV dating show are feeling a bit perplexed this time around, voicing that something seems "off" with the cast.

A lot of people are suggesting it might be due to this year's "personalities" or perhaps the apparent "lack of diversity".

It has led to some people dubbing the current series "underwhelming" by some former X (formerly Twitter) users, with complaints circulating that the villa's occupants all seem like "side characters" without any standout qualities.

Social media enthusiast @CoCoMaiPhillips aired her thoughts on the platform, posting: "Something is off with this season #loveisland." She elaborated with: "It's like everyone's acting."

Echoing her sentiment, another user remarked: "There is no main character. Most of them feel like a supporting cast. And coming off a season with such strong personalities, it's so underwhelming."

Critiques didn't stop there, with others pointing out: "There's not enough diversity", "So dry! ! They're also still aware that there are cameras." While another added: "No diversity, Indiyah and Whitney season thrived because they were diverse and had strong characters."

A further social media user chimed in with a comment about the contestants' appearances: "Samantha, Nicole and Harriet look like they go to the same surgeon, hard to tell them apart," they said. "Patsy (who hasn't had any TV time) and Jess look like twins. Mimi is the only natural beauty. The boys are mid."

Meanwhile, another person added: "Feel like all the girls except Mimi paid for their spot".

One viewer voiced their dissatisfaction, saying "boring" was the word for this year's Love Island, and claimed no one contestant has really shone. Furthermore, even Joey Essex's surprise appearance didn't raise their spirits, with one fan remarking: "It's the fact they bought in Joey Essex who says 'reem' and 'what you saying? ' At 33????".

Of course, there are still those who are keen on the current season. One fan enthusiastically posted: "Life is soo good when there's a new Love Island season." While another chimed in with: "Ready to live, breathe and only think of Love Island for the next 8 weeks."

A third echoed these sentiments by writing: "I wish Love Island was like Big Brother so we could watch them 24/7."

Joey's shocking entrance into the villa didn't go unnoticed by many fans, with remarks such as: "Joey Essex coming into the villa as a bombshell was not on my 2024 bingo card", "Joey Essex just walked in I am so shocked", and "Not gonna lie, I'm secretly excited about what Joey Essex is going to come out with for the duration he's there. The stuff that comes out of that guy's mouth is comedy gold."

ITV has been contacted for comment.
