December is here, and with it, longer opening times as the government green-lights plans to let shops recover from the effects of lockdown.

Councils have been given the right to waive restrictive shopping hours; a move designed to help business-owners after months of coronavirus restrictions.

At the moment, shops can stay open in the week and on Saturdays from 9am - 7pm, except for Sunday trading. If they want to keep going beyond that, they have to apply for special permission. Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick has announced a move to temporarily suspend those processes to create a “more pleasant and safe shopping experience”.

Some shops could keep their doors open for 24 hours, something we can all appreciate in the days before December 25.

We’ve put together a list of the top shops and their new hours for the run-up to Christmas.

Argos extended hours opening times

Most stores will be open from 9am - 8pm during the working week. On Saturday you can visit the store from 9am - 6.30pm while Sundays have shorter hours, opening from 11am - 5pm.
