Lizzo says her body positive nudity is a point of contention with her family

Watch: Lizzo's family annoyed by nudity and profanity

Lizzo – whose real name is Melissa Jefferson – has admitted her nudity and profanity have caused quite a stir amongst her family members.

The pop star is known for her work to redefine the body positivity movement.

Her lyrics focus on themes of self-love and empowerment, and she often uses her social media channels to call out body shamers and encourage her followers to love themselves.

But some of her relatives don’t approve of her career, Lizzo admitted.

“I’ve pissed a few family members off,” she revealed on Monday’s episode of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke.

“I don’t know if it’s just the cussing, it might be the nudity, too.”

‘“My cousin Pookie gets mad at me all the time. He’ll call my mum and be like, “Hey, tell Melissa to put some clothes on,” she laughed.

“And then I double-down and post some more nudes the next day.”

The Good As Hell singer, 34, opened up about her strict religious upbringing.

"For the first 10 years of my life, when we lived in Detroit, I was in The Church of God in Christ. When you have that faith, it is strict with the kind of music you listen to. We didn't listen to secular music, it was devil music."

She admitted that she wouldn’t have been allowed to listen to her music back in the day.

"Early on Lizzo, yes. But when Lizzo started cussing, no.”

Before singing Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love”, Lizzo talked about how the singer’s music played a major influence in her life.

“When I was shy or when I didn’t think I was cool and when I was getting picked on, I would listen to Beyoncé’s music in my bedroom, and it would transport me,” she shared.

“When I dropped out of college and I was really depressed, I listened to “B’Day” on repeat."

"The way she makes people feel is the way I want to make people feel with music. She is my North Star.”
