Oscars 2022: Kristen Stewart 'really fought' to wear shorts on red carpet
Kristen Stewart has been praised for pushing red carpet fashion boundaries switching the more traditional evening gown and arriving at the Oscars 2022 in a pair of cropped shorts.
The actor, who was nominated for best actress for her role as Princess Diana in Spencer, brought an edge to the prestigious event rocking up in cropped tuxedo jacket, black shorts and an open white sheer blouse, all from designer Chanel.
She wore her hair loose in messy waves and on an extreme side part and went for a punky look with her make-up.
On the red carpet, Stewart revealed she'd fought for the decision to wear the boundary pushing shorts.
When an interviewer said he loved that she could "show up to the Oscars coz you're that girl in shorts"m she replied: "I really fought for this one."
She later broke down the look explaining she was wearing "head-to-toe Chanel" and had been talking about the look with Chanel designers for two months, with them adapting a look for her from the runway.

Turns out the choice to swap haute couture for hotpants was pointed.
“We were teetering between pants and shorts,” Tara Swennen, Stewart's stylist of 17 years, told BAZAAR. “But Kristen, being the fashion chameleon that she is, was like, ‘Let’s do it. Let’s go for shorts.’”
On social media the 31-year-old actor was praised for her choice to eschew the traditional floor-skimming gown with many fans approving of the sartorial switch up.

One Twitter user described Stewart’s red carpet look as "iconic".
“I’d like to think how we choose to dress up is how we represent ourselves and the whole look is totally so her,” they wrote. “I’m so proud of her so confident and loud and proud”.
"Did Kristen Stewart win for best live-action shorts?" another user tweeted.

"Kristen Stewart wearing shorts on the red carpet is already iconic," another user agreed.
Other users pre-empted any eye raising over Stewart's choice to ditch the more traditional formal wear.
"Are there really people criticising Kristen Stewart cause she wore shorts on a red carpet? Let's stop the stereotypes of wearing dresses for being a woman," one user tweeted.
And one compared the look to Princess Diana's revenge dress.

Stewart was joined at the event by her screenwriter fiancée – Dylan Meyer – who looked equally as modish wore a brown suit with a white shirt, which she left half unbuttoned.
Last November the actor announced she was engaged to Meyer after two years together.
Stewart confirmed the happy news on The Howard Stern Show, revealing Meyer, 33, had proposed to her.
“We’re marrying! We’re totally gonna do it," she told the host.
"I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted and she nailed it. We’re marrying, it’s happening."
Meyer, a screenwriter whose work includes Netflix’s Moxie, had known Stewart for six years before they initially got together.
They had met on a film set and had vague contact through mutual friends.
After going public with their romance in September 2019, Stewart said then she was eager to tie the knot with her.
"I want to be, like, sort of somewhat reasonable about it, but I think good things happen fast,” she said at the time.
It isn't the first time Stewart has decided to tear up the fashion memo.
At the Sundance Film Festival back in 2016 she decided to forgo the formal and took to the red carpet in a pair of trainers and trousers. And she looked cool as.
The Twilight star decided to say no to a restrictive dress and towering heels and turned up to the event in a pair of Adidas lace-ups, straight leg trousers and a denim jacket.
And in 2018 she opted to forgo shoes altogether as she walked the Cannes red carpet in bare feet.
Interestingly, Stewart isn't the first celebrity to wear shorts on the Oscars red carpet.
Way back in 1989 Demi Moore rocked up to the red carpet wearing a pair of cycling shorts underneath an 80s-style puff ball skirt.
