Kim Kardashian criticises fast fashion brands for 'ripping off' her designer wardrobe

Kim Kardashian has called out fast fashion retailers for copying her designer looks.

The 38-year-old entrepreneur and reality television star, who, like many celebrities, has been known to borrow designer clothing for red carpet event, said she could “no longer sit silent”.

In a seven-tweet long Twitter thread, Kardashian hit out retailers who create budget, copycat versions of the luxury fashion she wears.

Kardashian also expressed her anger at such companies “profiting” from the work of her husband Kanye West, 41, the founder of high-end fashion label Yeezy.

Kardashian also criticised labels for replicating the vintage Thierry Mugler gown she wore last Sunday – a look which yesterday sparked a bitter response from ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Piers Morgan.

The mum-of-three, who’s currently expecting her fourth child via surrogate, stressed she has “no relationship” with the particular fast fashion site who brought out a replication of the look.

Kardashian didn’t name the brand, but it’s believed to be self-proclaimed “ultra fashion fashion brand” Fashion Nova, who released a version yesterday.

However, it would seem Kardashian’s concerns fell on largely unsympathetic ears, with many followers suggesting the comments were out of touch with her “poor” fans who simply want to emulate her looks.

It was also pointed out Kardashian often doesn’t pay for her expensive clothes.

Fashion Nova has also issued a response to Kardashian’s criticism, clarifying that the company has no business connection with her but is simply influenced by her.

Disposable fashion – only wearing clothing items once or twice, as Kardashian herself appears to – is another practice to fall under criticism, for being at odds with sustainability.

Yesterday, MPs criticised this “insatiable appetite” for clothes – and suggested a penny tax be imposed on fast fashion retailers to go towards a UK government-led recycling scheme.
