Katherine Ryan and her hubby Bobby might not butt heads often, except when it comes to her love for a nip and tuck.

As the second series of At Home With Katherine Ryan is set to return on U&W, Katherine Ryan dished out that she's treated her 64 year old mum Julie to a facelift.

"It could be received as a slam," confessed Katherine, considering how some might take the gift. She added, "But again, our family is so transparent, we know a lot about each other and what each other wants. It’s lonely to look in the mirror and no longer recognise yourself. And I just knew my mom would like a facelift."

Katherine fancies one for herself too, further down the line, but her husband Bobby Kootstra isn't quite sold on the idea. "Rightly, Bobby views any surgery as an unnecessary, very small, risk to your life," Katherine explains.

The comedian reveals that Bobby's love has always been unconditional, recalling their time together before she embraced fame or cosmetic enhancements.

He's not head over heels for the idea of surgery, but if it truly made Katherine happy, he'd back her — "Through gritted teeth," Katherine says.

Looking back, Katherine muses over her journey from the '90s and early noughties. Once focusing on striking the balance between being independent yet alluring, now she's got a fresh feminist take. Still a fashionista at heart, she's dressing on her own terms now, leaving the days of impressing men in the rear-view mirror.

Katherine Ryan candidly shares her journey from a young woman who desired to fit into societal beauty standards to an older woman and mother who values qualities beyond physical attractiveness. She says: "As a young woman, I wanted to be pretty, I wanted to subscribe to the male gaze."

"Then, as an older woman and as a mother, I realised that beauty is a depreciating asset and that there are far more admirable qualities that a woman can have in her very rich and varied life." In her new TV series, viewers will see Katherine's contrasting styles, from glamorous to casual.

She explains: "I either look super sparkly and glam or I look like an elderly rapper in some type of luxury tracksuit with no makeup on. I actually love having no makeup on.I dress for myself and for women, and I take risks in stand-up, just like I take risks in fashion. I love doing that. It’s part of self-expression."

In the second series of At Home With Katherine Ryan, Katherine also takes Bobby to see an intimacy coach about their sex life, which is being rattled by their family life - the pair share Violet, 15, Fred, 3, and Fenna Grace, one.

The couple's lack of variety under the sheets even stuns Kamasutra expert Seema Anand. So how often do they have sex? "About five times a month," reveals Katherine. "The national average is three. It’s not that we don’t want to, but we have a lot of policing in the house.

Violet is in school, sure, but then the babies are there! It’s like when we were teenagers, because we used to hide from our parents and have to get creative. Now we have to hide from a teenager and get creative."
