Katherine Ryan gets marriage coaching with husband Bobby Kootstra over sex issues
Katherine Ryan and her husband Bobby Kootstra get candid in the second series of her hit show At Home With Katherine Ryan, where they explore their marriage and even visit an intimacy coach to add some zest to their bedroom antics.
The 41 year old comedian and former Masked Singer star, opens up about the challenges of maintaining an intimate life while juggling a teenager and two toddlers at home.
Even Kamasutra expert Seema Anand isn't impressed with the couple's love life, due to a lack of variety. Katherine Ryan admits, "About five times a month," when asked about their sexual frequency.

She adds: "The national average is three. It’s not that we don’t want to, but we have a lot of policing in the house. Violet is in school, sure, but then the babies are there! It’s like when we were teenagers, because we used to hide from our parents and have to get creative. Now we have to hide from a teenager and get creative."
On her U&W show, Katherine and husband Bobby Kootstra encouraged to experiment with sex tips such as listening to erotic audio together, but Katherine isn't too keen and is quite open about her straightforward sex life.
"Absolutely I’m still vanilla in the bedroom," she confesses. "I have no interest in games or props or toys or audio erotica. We had no idea how prudish we actually were about sex until we invited the intimacy coach into our lives."
For Katherine, it's all about the thrill of secret liaisons and keeping it simple with her preferred missionary position. "Maybe the brevity and danger of the way we have to have sex is enough," she considers.
"I think a lot of the British viewing public are navigating the same issues. They probably want to have sex but maybe they’ve just eaten or they can’t be bothered or they’re too tired and they’re just not as willing to talk about it as much as we are! ".
Though Katherine feels her romance with Bobby isn't on the rocks, she's pinpointed a major issue that could ruin everything. "People will argue about finances or sleep," Katherine points out, "But I think under-appreciation is a real bad one, and that leads to a lack of respect and that’s the beginning of the end."
She reveals that in her house, appreciation is key despite different strengths and roles. "Bobby and I have different strengths and different skills and we have different roles in our house but it’s really important to make sure your spouse feels appreciated."
In her upcoming show, viewers will catch a glimpse of both sides of Katherine – casual at home and dazzling at work. "I have one of two looks," she divulges.
"I either look super sparkly and glam or I look like an elderly rapper in some type of luxury tracksuit with no makeup on. I actually love having no makeup on."
Katherine Ryan has always been a trailblazer, both on stage and in her fashion choices. She's candid about dressing for herself and other women, embracing risks in stand-up comedy just as she does with her bold style statements.
"I love doing that. It’s part of self-expression."
The comedian may not obsess over her appearance as much these days, but she's open about wanting more cosmetic surgery in the future. In a surprising move, she even treated her 64 year old mother Julie to a facelift, fully aware of how it might be perceived.
"It could be received as a slam," Katherine admits, but she knows her family well. "But again, our family is so transparent, we know a lot about each other and what each other wants. It’s lonely to look in the mirror and no longer recognise yourself. And I just knew my mom would like a facelift."
Seeing her mother's transformation has only increased Katherine's desire to have a facelift when the time feels right, although her partner Bobby isn't entirely convinced. He sees any surgery as a needless risk, however small.
"Rightly, Bobby views any surgery as an unnecessary, very small, risk to your life," she explains. Despite his reservations about cosmetic procedures, Bobby's love for Katherine is unwavering.
"Bobby has always loved me for who I am. We were together pre-Botox, pre-fame, pre-breast implants. He doesn’t love surgery, but if it’s something I really wanted, if it made me happy, he’d support me. Through gritted teeth."
Before Katherine considers going under the knife, she's focusing on potentially expanding her family. She and Bobby, both 41, are contemplating a visit to the fertility clinic to discuss the possibility of having a fourth child, knowing that they're racing against time.
"It’s not that surprising that over-40 women have fewer follicles than we once did," Katherine shares. "But we talk a lot about male fertility as well, which is on a steep decline. But I would still like a fourth baby.We are so blessed to have the kids that we do have. Having children is not for everyone, but I personally really like making people. I think it’s a superpower, if you can do it."
