Kate wears '90s vintage Chanel out in London

The Princess of Wales embraced vintage yesterday for an outing in London. The royal wore a blue tweed Chanel jacket – originally produced in 1995 – to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of Coach Core; an organisation that supports disadvantaged young people to sign up for community sports coaching apprenticeships.

Kate is a consistent example of how to shop and approach your wardrobe mindfully – whether she’s re-wearing her favourite pieces, opting for sustainable brands, or delving into the world of vintage fashion.

Her '90s Chanel blazer serves as an important reminder that you can still get that feeling of newness in your wardrobe, without having to actually buy something brand new. The royal made the bold piece work-appropriate, by styling it with staple wide-leg trousers and pointed boots.

The princess wore her hair a little differently for the outing, swapping her signature bouncy blow-dry for a slightly softer, sleeker version.

If you're new to vintage shopping, it can feel like a daunting task; there's so much out there that it can seem overwhelming if you don't know where to start.

Amy Bannerman, eBay's pre-loved fashion stylist, suggests keeping your search circle small. "When you find something you love, look at the sellers’ other items – I found a woman on eBay recently who just had the most incredible archive of old Galliano and 1990s gold dust, it was like falling into a dream wardrobe," she advises.

Sustainable wardrobe expert Charlie Collins suggests finding your 'style twin' online – someone with a similar body type whose style you admire, and who regularly sells pre-loved fashion – while Selena Williams, who has her own successful Depop shop, advises that you should always "make sure to ask for the measurements, as vintage sizing is sometimes off, so you can't always go by what it says on the label".
