Kate, Princess of Wales once again gave a nod to Princess Diana this weekend by wearing a pair of the late royal's earrings on Remembrance Sunday.

For the poignant event in London, the mother of three wore an all-black ensemble – including a smart coat dress from one of Diana's go-to designers, Catherine Walker, and a wide-brimmed Philip Treacy hat.

The princess was also pictured overlooking proceedings the Cenotaph in London in a pair of pearl earrings that previously belonged to her late mother-in-law.

A £14,500 brooch by Bentley & Skinner and a cluster of red poppies finished the look.

The brooch is believed to be new to Kate and, Tatler suggests, a possible present from Prince William to his wife for her 40th birthday in January - it was listed for sale the same month.

Her outfit for the important occasion – which marks marks the moment the guns fell silent in 1918 at the end of World War I – was remarkably similar to one worn by Prince William's mother for Remembrance Day in 1990.

The late princess, then aged 30 years old, accompanied her husband Prince Charles to the Yokohama War Cemetery during an official visit to Japan.

She wore a black Chanel suit and a wide-brimmed Philip Somerville hat, as well as a pair of pearl earrings and a cluster of red poppies on her lapel.

It isn't the first time this particular look has seemingly inspired one of her daughters-in-law – in 2019 Meghan Markle also stepped out in a similar look.

The Duchess of Sussex, now 41, wore a black wide-brimmed hat and belted coat for Remembrance Sunday that year, months before she stepped back as a working royal in January 2020.

The Princess of Wales has appeared to have been taking sartorial inspiration from her late mother-in-law rather frequently of late.

Last month, she wore a blue vintage Chanel blazer that was remarkably similar to one worn by the princess from the same designer brand to visit Great Ormond Street hospital in 1992.
