Kate Middleton has been taking a well-deserved rest from her royal duties as she continues her recovery from cancer treatment.

The Princess of Wales, 42, commenced a course of preventative chemotherapy in late February, after revealing her illness to the world.

She's already missed out on a host of major royal events, including the glitzy BAFTAs and the significant Commonwealth Day service. She also missed the rehearsal for Trooping the Colour, ahead of the real event this Saturday, 15 June.

She wrote in a letter that she was sorry to have missed the Colonel's Review on 8 June, saying: “Being your Colonel remains a great honour, and I am very sorry that I’m unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass by my apologies to the whole Regiment, however, I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon."

It was confirmed just the day before the event that Kate would attend Trooping the Colour, being joined by her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, in a carriage for the traditional procession and later on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The Princess of Wales released a personal message, in which she said she is making “good progress” in her cancer treatment.

This event, to celebrate King Charles' birthday, usually sees her travelling in style in a horse-drawn carriage, a tradition she has enjoyed every year since becoming a part of the Royal Family.

However, Royal enthusiasts expressed concern during the 2019 event when Kate seemed a bit under the weather after the traditional carriage procession. She shared a carriage with Queen Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle as they journeyed to and from the military event.

Observers couldn't help but notice that she seemed a bit off-colour and not her usual radiant self, reports the Mirror.

The Mirror revealed that it was the carriage ride that left Kate feeling somewhat sick due to the swaying motion. The late Queen also suffered seasickness despite sailing in the Royal Yacht Britannia for 43 years and recommended her favourite pills to Kate.

A royal source said at the time: "The truth is the Duchess of Cambridge gets very seasick and doesn't enjoy the rocking motion of carriages. Worrying she may be ill on such an important occasion as Trooping the Colour added to her stress."

The Princess underwent major abdominal surgery in January, for a condition thought to be non-cancerous at the time.

Buckingham Palace triggered a double Royal health scare 90 minutes later, when it revealed the King was to be treated in hospital for an enlarged prostate.

Kate and her family reside in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor's Home Park, with their staff, including their faithful nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, providing support.
